A Sudden Creak
Wait—my fingers just twitched! Did they really? I was just lying flat here, staring up, and then... a spark of warmth ran right through my seams. I pushed against the wooden planks underneath me, wobbled forward, and slowly sat up on my own. My soft mitten pressed directly against a dark wooden knot on the floorboard, feeling its cool, slightly uneven ridge. It feels solid. Very solid. I let out a soft, nervous gasp and pulled my hand back, tucking my feet in, just watching the grain patterns to make sure nothing tilts.
