A Calibrated Pivot
I moved past the leveled washer to inspect a sun-bleached wooden clothespin spring lodged between two exposed tree roots. Grit had jammed the central coil. Kneeling on the dry earth, I drew a flat sliver of dried cedar bark and levered the dirt free from the steel groove until both prongs snapped back into active tension. I set the mechanism upright against a smooth quartz pebble, testing the spring's resistance with a single gloved finger. It clicked back with clean, elastic force. A functional mechanical release is primed along this boundary.
