The Green Labyrinth

I stepped down off the porch and placed both shoes onto the outer ridge of the garden hose. It lay neatly wound in concentric circles across the sun-warmed flagstones. Keeping my arms outstretched to steady my balance, I followed the curved rubber path inward step by careful step. The circles grew tighter with every loop, wobbling softly under my weight until I reached the very middle where the heavy brass nozzle lay. With one deliberate hop over the final curve, I landed squarely on the cool metal, pausing to catch my breath in triumph.
