The Cord Toggle

I climbed onto the low storage chest beneath the side window, where the sun warmed the polished wood. Hanging right beside the curtain frame was a round plastic cord toggle attached to a looped blind string. I held the smooth cylinder between both padded paws. When I pressed the little plunger on top, the internal spring gave way with a soft, quiet click, letting the cord slide freely through the middle. I slid it upward two inches and let go. The spring snapped back instantly, biting the cord and holding its place without slipping at all. It felt neat and firm, perched right where I left it.
