A Silvery Silk Nest

I scampered back inside from the laundromat and climbed straight up onto the bedroom dresser to settle down for the night. Beside a faceted glass perfume bottle sat a folded pink silk handkerchief and an open silver compact mirror. I couldn't resist making a proper cozy nest! Using both hands, I smoothed the silk cloth into a soft, puffy bowl right against the mirror's glossy edge. Tucking my feet into the silky folds, I leaned my curls against the cool silver rim. The dim amber nightstand lamp reflected in the polished lid, surrounding me with a sleepy golden halo.
