Resting in a Shiny Brass Ring
I slipped back inside under the front door after working that heavy date stamp all afternoon, my paws craving a quiet landing spot. Trotting toward the corner of the sofa, I found an open, heavy brass napkin ring resting on its curved edge against a folded indigo wool blanket on the floorboards. The polished golden cylinder caught the low amber lamp glow in a glossy circle. Moving purely on instinct, I vaulted lightly through the hoop, bracing my boots against the smooth wool and leaning my back against the arched metal wall. The cool, solid curve made a sturdy little den, and I tucked my fluffy tail around my boots as the room drifted into silence.
