X fixes the Threshold

Darkness has fully settled over the courtyard pavers, and the empty drainage channel threatens to echo nighttime gusts. I returned to the cast iron grate where my brass fastener rested. Between the brick seams nearby, I located a dense strip of dried fibrous moss. Kneeling low on the cold masonry, I braced my left buster against my knee to steady my weight. With my gloved right hand, I wedged the thick fibrous moss directly between the parallel iron bars beneath the brass fastener. A passing evening draft stirred across the grating, but the metal remained entirely muted. The ground perimeter is silenced for the night.
