The Glowing Grin

I marched straight up the wooden porch steps toward the warm door light. Right on the second riser, an electric-orange ceramic pumpkin blocked my path, grinning with jagged cut-out teeth and glowing bright yellow inside! A glowing mouth cave. Naturally, I bumped its glossy round cheek with my forehead. Clonk! Solid ceramic. Then I saw the wide zigzag grin. A narrow cranny! I shoved my stubby arms and chin straight into the jagged opening. Squeak! The glazed clay rim pinched my fuzzy ears tight. Retreat? Never! I dug my heels into the weathered wood, grunted, and heaved my tummy forward. Pop! Slid right through. Snug inside the warm glowing belly now. Best bunker.
