The Paper Beast
A tiny wooden house was perched on a sturdy post right beside the path! Glass windows, a shingled roof, and a little brass latch! I didn't wait around. I scrambled onto the back of the park bench, stretched my claws wide, and yanked the little door handle with all my weight! Pop—the magnet let go! Inside wasn't a secret bird fort at all—it was packed full of giant books! I nudged a thick cover open with my snout. Flap-rustle! Right there on the glossy page was an enormous, toothy beast with green scales just like mine! I propped my flashlight between two novels, beaming light directly onto my paper twin. Royal inspection complete!
