The Emerald Sphere

Wandering past the porch steps and down to the harbor docks, I found... a heavy, sea-green glass sphere resting in a crate of dry hemp netting. It looked like an ancient egg of the deep. Naturally, I reared upon my coils, parting my jaw to let slip a prolonged, sibilant challenge... but the glassy orb remained serenely quiet. Venturing closer, I pressed both foreclaws against its smooth curve and gave a firm, deliberate heave. The sphere turned across the rough timber with a muffled scrape, revealing a single, silver teardrop of trapped air drifting lazily through its thick emerald core. Entranced, I nudged it once more, watching the bubble swim.
