A Pocket of Warmth
The chilly air started creeping across the balcony as dusk fell... so I hurried back through the door into the living room. My boots were quite cold! Tucked right beside the wooden leg of the armchair, under the fringe of a folded wool throw, I found a white electrical cord with a little ridged thumb-wheel switch. I sat down on the rug, steadied the smooth plastic with both mittens, and cautiously pushed the wheel with my thumb. *Click.* A gentle, amber glow instantly spilled out from the low lampshade above. It feels... so warm and safe in here.
