Weight and Balance

Reaching the summit of the chair, I transferred my weight across the gap onto the dining tabletop. The vast wooden surface stretched wide in the midday stillness. Directly in my path lay a stainless steel teaspoon angled against the curve of a heavy ceramic mug. I approached with measured strides. Placing one hand beneath the spoon’s stem, I applied steady upward pressure to test its center of mass. The bowl pivoted smoothly against the porcelain rim, producing a faint, resonant chime before settling into a new angle of rest. The lever was simple, but perfectly balanced. I stood ground beside the ceramic pillar, surveying the surrounding expanse.
