The Slipper Harbor
Up the stone steps—pant, heave, huff! My feet were dotted with garden mulch, but the front door crack was waiting! I shoved my round shoulders right through the narrow draft into the quiet hallway. Phew! Inside, right on the dark ribbed shoe mat, sat a giant, wool-lined slipper. I tumbled forward, reached up with both tired arms, and flopped my chest right over the plush fleece cuff! Clink! My brass safety pin tapped the rubber rim. Warm, fluffy fuzz against my cheek! I let my heavy arms dangle straight into the cozy shoe cave. Back home! Ah!
