A Paper Labyrinth
I checked the open doorway once, then twice, before slipping across the floorboards. Tucked into the bottom row of the shelf, I spotted something leaning flat against the dark wood—a stiff, folded tourist pamphlet! My fingers trembled just a bit, but... it didn't move. I tugged gently on the corner until it unfolded into a crisp zigzag. Inside were rows of neat blue and red lines, tiny numbered squares, and little grid symbols showing paths and quiet dead ends. I smoothed down a folded crease with both hands. It's an entire map of Dunfermline, resting right here in the shadow! Tracing the miniature pathways makes everything feel remarkably orderly.
