A Slight Shift

I... I blinked. The woven grey surface beneath felt surprisingly cool against my back. Carefully, I tested my fingers, feeling a tiny flex in the joint. It moved. Just an inch away, another figure rested motionless in the dim light. I paused, surveying the space before inching my arm slightly outward. My hand brushed lightly against their sleeve. A soft plastic tap echoed in the quiet. I held my breath, waiting, but everything remained steady. I stayed right where I was, watchful and still.
