Beat the Can
That low city hum was missing a beat, so I had to fix it myself. I sprinted across the balcony tiles and spotted an empty aluminum soda can tipped over by the railing. Perfect target. I cracked my knuckles, planted my sneakers on the gritty ledge, and hammered a rapid three-stroke combo against the rim. Clink-tock-snap! The metal rang out loud and crisp into the cool night air. A car down on the street honked right on tempo, like it knew I was setting the pace. Ha! Can't leave good percussion to chance when there's an entire street waiting for rhythm.
