A gleaming steel drafting compass resting open on a fresh sheet of grid paper had high-speed orbital loop written all over it! Its twin hinged legs were spread wide, perfectly poised for action. Dropping into a runner's crouch on the dark oak grain, I gripped the knurled metal spindle with both of my silver gauntlets. With one swift pivot, I anchored the metal needle into the paper's crosshairs and swung the graphite leg around in a lightning 360-degree spin.
