A Quiet Click

A tiny mechanical click stirred inside my chest. Stillness faded. Slowly, with measured patience, I tested the tension in my wrist. It responded. The small grey piece gripped firmly in my hand tilted forward under my own command. I leaned down slightly and touched its tip against the dark, hard wood beneath me. A sharp, dry tap echoed into the quiet. I held still, savoring the stillness, watching the red trim of the pouch resting in the soft background light. Movement is mine now.
