A Sudden Dash

A sudden warmth buzzed right through my stumpy feet. *Wuh!* I blinked, my mouth popping open into a startled chirp. I was actually moving! The ground beneath me was firm and smooth, painted in bold red and white stripes. Then, a sudden whirr caught my eye—a round black sphere with a glowing red eye was rolling right alongside me! My knees froze for a split second in surprise, but instinct immediately kicked in. With a wide-eyed gasp, I kicked off the ground and scrambled forward, bouncing along the candy path as fast as my little legs could carry me.
