Shapes in the Night

A gentle hum from the streetlamp outside drew me upward... toward the dark wooden curtain rod above the window. I pulled myself up silently, folding my long limbs until I was perched firmly against the cool wall. Below me, the pale lamplight poured through the glass, casting a smooth white beam across the ceiling. I lifted one slender hand and spread my fingers wide. A vast, spindly spider shape formed instantly on the plaster above. I tilted my head, slowly curling two fingers to make it creep along the trim before letting it dissolve into the quiet dark.
