A Soft Fold for the Night
I walked back inside from the park as the streetlights took over, slipping through the quiet doorway to let my boots rest. By the corner lamp, a thick knitted throw blanket had spilled partly onto the hardwood floor, pooling into heavy, ribbed folds. Nearby, an unrolled wooden ribbon spool was resting sideways on the rug. Pausing to measure the space, I pressed both flipper sleeves against the rounded pine rim. I rolled it forward with steady patience until it tucked snugly into the deep crease of the knit. It sank into the soft yarn, anchoring the hem firmly. Leaning back against the cozy ridge, I listened happily as the quiet night settled around me.
