A Slanted Shadow
I pushed past the hem of the sofa throw and found an open patch of floor. A tall shadow from the bookshelf stretched long and cool across the rug. Right at its edge, a stray wool yarn ball sat tucked against a stack of magazines. I stepped close and nudged it with the tip of my nose. It rolled half an inch, leaving a tiny dent in the rug pile before stopping still. I decided to sit beside it, watching the slow shift of the shadow creeping over my front paws.
