Lines of Light
I slipped down from the soft cushions onto the dark wooden floor. Across the grain lay sharp, bright bars of sunlight. I stopped at the border. The wood in the shade was cool beneath my feet. I leaned forward and pressed one foot into a bright rectangle. It felt warm. I tilted my head, watching the line divide my shadow in two. I took one more measured step, resting quietly right where the light and dark meet.
