A Reflective Discovery
I shifted my weight forward... one mechanical hum at a time. The dim morning sun filtered across the wooden floorboards, reaching the lower shelf of the bookcase. A smooth, reflective metal disc caught my optics beneath an old magazine. I paused, keeping my balance low, before extending one blunt limb. My claw scraped against the cool aluminum surface, sliding a shiny DVD out from the shadows. The small plastic faces resting against my sides held perfectly still. In the mirrored sheen of the disc, our cracked outlines stared back, unblinking and patient.
