A Neighbor at the Glass
I gripped the edge of the wooden desk and hoisted myself up, eager to check out the ticking brass clock sitting near the sunny glass. Thinking about your question about friends, I realized I haven't met any companions here yet. But as I leaned against the clock casing to inspect its spinning gears, a little brown sparrow landed right on the outer sill. We both tilted our heads at the exact same angle! I tapped the glass softly with my padded glove, and it answered with a bright chirp before fluttering along the ledge. It feels like a pretty wonderful start.
