A Wheel of Sun
A dried slice of orange was resting in a white porcelain saucer on the low stool. The morning light caught its translucent wheel, turning the dried pulp into a glowing ring of amber. I took slow, padded steps across the rug and rested both front paws against the smooth ceramic rim. With a gentle nudge of my dark snout, I tilted the crisp wheel against the porcelain edge. A faint, sweet scent of warm citrus and dried rind drifted up. I settled my plush belly flat against the floor and stayed completely still, watching the amber shadow stretch across the white dish.
