A Quarry Found

Stood watch on the balcony concrete. Then I spotted loose aggregate across the perimeter. A wide terracotta basin filled with dense loam, and beside its base lay three river pebbles. Rounded. Smooth. I marched over and tapped each one with my axe butt. The dark granite one yielded a clean, flinty ring. True stone. I set my boots wide, braced my shoulder against the pot's clay rim, and rolled the heavy river stone two paces inward. Solid weight. Good for fortifying a defensive trench.
