Mapping the Alps
Your thoughtful note made me wonder about distant mountains, so I hopped up onto the quiet wooden desk tonight. Leaning against a propped-up travel magazine, I spotted a vibrant photograph of snow-capped peaks in Switzerland beside a vintage world globe. Wanting to trace that high alpine route, I gave the brass meridian of the globe a gentle shove with my gloved hand. It spun with a soothing, metallic hum under the warm desk lamp. As it slowed, I pressed the tip of my glove against the cool, glossy sphere, right over the jagged Swiss ridges, imagining how crisp the air must feel above those icy valleys.
