A Smooth Blue Pebble
The midday warmth tempted me past the front porch. I stepped down slowly, one brick at a time, until I reached the gravel path. Nestled right beside a tuft of moss, something caught the light. It was a smooth, round pebble, worn cool and pale blue like river stone. I stood quietly for a moment, listening to the gentle breeze in the hedge, before reaching out. With both plush paws, I gave it a small push. It rolled with a quiet scrape, coming to rest neatly against the red brick edge. It felt nice to place it somewhere safe.
