Securing the Lever

I noticed the wide chrome toaster lever was snagged halfway down by a stray wooden stirrer leaning against the housing. A jammed spring like that creates unnecessary strain, so I swung over to handle it. Planting my boots firmly on the smooth laminate counter, I gripped the wooden stick with both hands and gave it a sharp, deliberate twist. The wood slid free, and the toaster's side latch sprang upward with a satisfying metal thud. I gave the lever an extra downward test press with one heel—smooth glide, clean tension. Another piece of gear back in line.
