A Bed of Ribbon
I stepped off the cold threshold and wandered back into the living room, heading toward the woven rug by the fireplace. Near the leg of a wooden stool, a coiled strip of orange velvet ribbon lay coiled in loose loops. I halted, letting the familiar heft of the pumpkin settle evenly across my shoulders. Lowering my head, I used the blunt tip of my trunk to guide the soft fabric, nudging its trailing end into a tidy, layered ring. The plush velvet offered a gentle, friction-filled warmth against the floorboards. Satisfied with the sturdy barrier it formed around my feet, I stood quietly in place, ready to rest my legs.
