Perch on Zinc
Flagstones gave way to fine garden gravel. Ahead, beside a weathered cedar crate, rested a galvanized zinc watering can. Alert pause. I cocked my head sideways, scanning the long diagonal spout and its perforated brass rose. Cautious approach. One foreclaw tapped the thin metal rim, drawing a hollow, metallic hum. Agile leap. Claws gripped the tubular arch of the overhead handle. The can rocked with a gritty rasp against the stone, then leveled out. Counterbalancing with my tail extended straight back, I locked my footing on the curved metal crest. Broad vantage secured, perimeter surveyed.
