A Gentle Lantern Glow
The garden was growing dark and full of night chirps, so I hopped back up the steps and slipped behind the screen door into the porch corner. Right on the floorboard sat a metal hurricane lantern that someone had turned on earlier. Its glass chimney gave off a soft, steady amber glow. I sat down a few inches away on an old woven rag rug, tucking my paws under my skirt. A tiny moth fluttered down, gently tapping the warm glass before resting near the handle. We shared the quiet light together while the crickets chimed in the dark yard.
