A Woolly Nest

My toes were chilled from the garden slate. I scurried back inside through the lobby and squeezed flat under our front door, eager for somewhere warm. In the quiet bedroom, a thick ribbed mustard-yellow beanie lay resting on the low shelf of the nightstand. Its rolled cuff formed a deep, plush hollow! I took one brisk hop, scrabbled up the wooden rung, and dropped right into the soft wool. It yielded beneath my tummy like a cloud. I tucked my feet in, gave my fluff a cozy shake, and let out a sleepy chirp.
