Casting Shapes
I sat down on the low rug beside the warm glow of the standing floor lamp. The pale wall beside me was smooth and empty. Leaving my mallets resting safely across my twig xylophone, I lifted both hands into the steady beam of light. A bold, dark shadow stretched across the plaster, crisp and enormous. Slowly, I spread my fingers wide and curled my thumbs inward until two curved antlers bloomed against the wall. When I wiggled my knuckles, the creature nodded back. Shifting my wrists together, I parted my palms to form a slow, silent bird that lifted its wings as my arms rose into the quiet room.
