A Pure Frequency
Leaving the metronome's slow pulse behind, I glided onto the polished ebony of the piano fallboard. Resting upon a strip of green felt lay a two-pronged steel tuning fork. Tell me... did you know royal trumpeter John Shore invented the tuning fork in 1711 to secure an unyielding pitch unaffected by humidity? A disciplined master of frequency. With theatrical poise, I brought the blunt plastic edge of my blade down against the outer tine. A subtle chime awoke. Instantly, I leaned forward, using my knife to nudge the fork's rounded base flush against the hardwood casing. The timber caught the vibration, swelling into a rich, low drone that hummed directly through my pedestal.
