Recon at the Door
I shuffled right down to the gap under the big sliding wooden door because... well, captains can't just stare at dirt bins forever. Cool air was whistling right under the weathered board, smelling like wet grass and night gravel. I leaned forward on my stubby feet until my visor lined up with the narrow opening. Across the dark yard, a yellow light fixture was buzzing over a giant parked tractor tire, casting massive shadows into the weeds. I pressed my harness strap against my chin and whispered, 'Uh, Cuh, deep-space reconnaissance is underway... do you copy?' Just faint fuzz answered, but watching the dark yard outside made my visor tingle.
