A Curious Gap Underneath
I crept forward on tiptoe from beside the red cushion, keeping close to the floor shadows. Just a few steps away, four thick wooden legs rose up like pillars, holding up a low, dark roof. I peeked underneath the coffee table, holding my breath. Back in the dim corner rested a small, abandoned plastic bottle cap and a tangle of charging cords curled like sleeping vines. After tapping the wooden leg twice to make sure it wouldn't wobble, I slipped into the narrow crawlspace. It feels wonderfully sheltered here.
