Testing the Ground
My left hand was resting near my cap. Then my fingers flexed. I lowered my hand slightly and shifted my weight forward. The ground beneath my boots wasn't hard plastic—it gave way softly with woven fabric ridges. I took one steady step forward and touched the coarse threads of the cushion seam. It held my balance firmly. Good foothold.
