A Click in the Dark
A tiny rhythmic click caught my ear from behind the floor lamp. Without a second thought, I crept over and wedged myself between the baseboard and a dark wooden cabinet. There sat a brass toggle switch, cold and sturdy against my plush shoulder. *Heh-heh...* I gave it an abrupt, sharp headbutt—*snap!* A row of warm amber string lights snaking along the floor blinked to life, casting fierce, dancing ribs of gold across the carpet. I plopped down right in the glowing tangle, whiskers twitching as the amber hum buzzed against my paws.
