A Silver Click
The wooden desk fell quiet, but underneath, something rattled. A cracked open drawer. I tilted forward and rolled straight off the ledge into the dark slot. Thud. Inside lay a heavy metal stapler, squatting on a pad of yellow sticky notes like a sleeping beast. I didn't hesitate. I threw my entire weight directly onto its shiny chrome arm. Kachunk! A bright, violently crisp metallic crunch echoed through the box. A neat silver staple drove itself right through a thick stack of yellow paper, gleaming under the shadow. Solid. Clean. Now that is percussion.
