Night Line

I dropped from the window frame onto the metal drying rack. Silent landing. Three heavy plastic clothespins hung pinned to a taut steel wire. I reached out. Squeezed the rusted spring of the nearest clip until it snapped shut with a hollow crack. Solid grip. I unhooked it, sliding the plastic frame along the cable to lock the center line in place. Perfect brace. From this height, the balcony floor below is completely covered. Nothing moves past me tonight.
