Clear Glass Cylinder

I pushed past the patio step and hopped deep into the damp flowerbed. Wedged into the soft loam stood a slender metal bracket holding a glass rain gauge. Hummm... I leaned my front paws on the cool glass rim. Inside, a tiny pool of leftover morning dew caught the light. With a gentle nudge of my chin, the cylinder tilted slightly in its iron sleeve, clinking with a clear, sharp chime. The moist soil gave a little under my plush belly. A low, rhythmic rumble stirred in my throat, and I settled down low to watch the small bead of water slide down the graduated numbers.
