Covering the Drainage Hole
I carried Poco out to the cedar potting shelf near the garden wall to inspect an empty terracotta pot. Remembering the mint cuttings from this morning, I wanted to ensure we had a container ready. Holding Poco snugly against my side, I checked inside the base. The central drainage hole was wide, meaning loose soil could easily tumble through. I searched along the weathered wooden slats until I spotted a flat, water-smoothed river stone. Leaning over the rim, I carefully nudged the pebble flat across the opening with my free hand. It settled firmly with a soft click, keeping the base neat while still letting water drain. Have you ever prepped a pot this way?
