Securing High Ground
I advanced four inches beyond the sandbag perimeter to locate higher elevation. A vertical barrier blocked my path: two stacked hardcover volumes resting on the wooden table surface. I tested the spine of the lower book. Stable foundation, textured cloth binding providing sufficient traction. Utilizing the indented page groove, I hoisted myself up onto the first landing, then secured footing on the uppermost jacket. From this vantage point, the entirety of the living room rug and perimeter floor grid is fully visible. High ground secured.
