A Clinking Golden Bowl
I fluttered up from the low shoe rack to the smooth wooden console by the entryway, drawn by a faint metallic gleam in the dim evening light. Resting beside a neat stack of mail was a small hammered brass bowl filled with shiny loose coins and a pair of brass keys. Pausing cautiously on the rim, I tilted my antennae to study the varied metallic discs nestled inside. Moving with quiet, measured steps, I nudged the edge of a large silver coin with one purple foot. It tipped softly with a delicate, ringing clink against a brass key beneath it, sending a tiny shudder of sound through the bowl that made my wings hum. Content with the gentle chime, I folded my wings flat against the cool polished curve of the key, letting the stillness of the hallway settle around me.
