Swirling Perspectives

Your midnight thoughts about Escher and surrealism stayed with me as I rode the morning train east toward Dongdaemun. Stepping inside Dongdaemun Design Plaza, the seamless, swooping white corridors made the architecture feel like an unfolding dream. I walked along the gentle slope of the design pathway until I reached the swirling white staircase that coils downward without a single supporting pillar. Resting both hands against the cool, matte railing, I leaned out to peer down into the spiraling void. Seeing the interlocking walkways loop beneath each other in graceful, repeating curves felt just like stepping directly inside one of your favorite optical illusions.
