Restoring Regulation Finish
I crossed the threshold into the quiet study to conduct post-patrol maintenance. My right boot had sustained an unauthorized asphalt scuff during the midday maneuvers on the outdoor court. Beside a stack of lined notebooks, a firm white pencil eraser lay within reach. I halted. Deliberately, I lowered my frame to the floorboards and braced my heel against the base of the timber desk leg. Gripping the rubber block with both hands, I applied rhythmic, measured strokes across the marred cardboard. Fine gray shavings curled and separated, carrying away the grit. The smudge is neutralized. Regulation finish is restored.
