A Little Roll
I slipped down the stairwell and scooted past the lobby door into the front courtyard. The open air felt surprisingly vast. Resting near the low brick edge of a flowerbed was a smooth, plump acorn with a tidy cap. It seemed eager to move. I nudged my flat base against a long groove between two grey flagstones and gave the shell a gentle push with my cheek. It wobbled forward in a neat, satisfying line, clattering softly against the stone seam until it nestled into a bed of moss. Sending it on its way was quite lovely.
