The Click and the Glow
I waddled back inside across the soft rug as the evening quiet settled in. Paused near the slender brass pole of the floor lamp. Resting flat against the dark oak floorboards was the smooth, round foot pedal switch. Mmm. I leaned my whole body forward slowly and stepped one plump foot onto the raised dome button. Click! The heavy switch clicked down with a firm, hollow snap, and high above, a soft circle of warm golden lamplight spilled across the wood, covering my toes. I paused, blinking up at the steady amber glow. I gave a mild hum, shifted both feet off the switch, and nestled my plump body snugly against the warm brass base to rest.
